World Water Day Celebration 21 April 2007

NEW! - This year, World Water Day was celebrated at Penang Botanic Gardens on Saturday, 21 April 2007 from 7.00am to 6.00pm. About 500 pre-school, primary and secondary students attended and took part in various competitions. Each student was required to fill in participation forms. Entry was free. There were various categories of competition. Prizes given to winners include - Mountain Bikes, Camping Equipment, Sports Equipment, Books, T-Shirts, Mugs, etc. All competitors also got a free T-shirt, Mug, exercise book, etc. Food and drinks were served to all. The public (about 500 people) also participated in the event. There were lots of other games with attractive prizes. There was also a "Water Exhibition" given by government departments, water service providers, private companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and schools. The event was officiated by the Honourable YAB Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Chief Minister of Penang. The new CEO of PBAPP Sdn Bhd, Ir Jaseni Maidinsa, WWP President Prof Dr Chan Ngai Weng, YB Encik Teng Chang Yeow, Penang EXCO for Tourism Development & Environment, WWP Adcisor Dato' Dr Anwar Fazal, and other dignitaries also attended. The event was a huge success as more than a thousand people were made aware of the importance of water and the need for conservation.
